Raw Vegan Boobie Bites

Now only week away from bubba’s due date, the nesting instincts have truly taken over… All I want to do is wash and fold baby clothes, prep meals for the freezer and bake! Harnessing this strong desire to bake, I thought I may as well get organised and have a play around with some lactation cookie recipes.

Having never really understood how eating what seemed to be just regular old cookies could help increase milk supply, I did a bit of digging around and found it’s a few key ingredients that help aid and boost lactation:

  • Brewer’s yeast, most commonly known for its use in the production of beer, contains iron, protein, B vitamins, chromium, selenium and various other trace minerals. Not only does it promote milk supply, it is believed to help with fatigue and the “baby blues.”
  • Oats are another must for breastfeeding mummas. They are high in fibre and full of iron, protein and complex carbohydrates. Low levels of iron in the body can actually reduce milk supply.
  • LSA (linseed, sunflower, almond) is packed full of good fats and enzymes, which are important for increasing the content of breast milk.
  • Black tahini is beneficial because it contains zinc, which is a must for breastfeeding. Zinc aids the immune system and even helps to protect cracked nipples, a common occurrence when breastfeeding. Like brewer’s yeast, it is also believed to help with postpartum depression.

Unfortunately, most of the store bought lactation biscuits are just regular old biscuits with a teeny tiny bit of brewers yeast in them, plus theyre super expensive.

These Raw Vegan Boobie Bites are free from any nasties and packed full of the good stuff!!! Once you’ve got the base down pat, feel free to get creative with flavour combinations and also don’t be afraid to use the recipe as an opportunity to sneak your supplements into a place you wont even remember you’ve put them (ie. adding maca, protein powder, supergreens, probiotics, collagen powder etc.)

Sending lots of love and support to all the mumma’s out there

1 cup raw cashews

Pinch salt

1 cup dates, soaked
1 tablespoon black tahini
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
75g your favourite raw chocolate

In a food processor, blitz all the dry ingredients first. Add in the remaining ingredients and blitz until a dough comes together. You can always balance the texture by adding either more oats to dry out the mix or more dates to moisten.
